So, the international break is over, and club football is going to resume. Yeah, I am lovin’ it.
In some leagues, the club football is returning in a day from the day I am writing this content piece. LaLiga will resume on Friday night. Speaking of which, FC Barcelona faced Sevilla as their first opponent after the break.
Luckily, the international break injury curse has been broken for the Catalan club. No players have suffered sidelining injuries. There were just minor knocks for Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski. But they have recovered from that and will be available against Sevilla.
However, I thought Hansi Flick would rest Lamine Yamal because that 17-year-old is already playing a ton of minutes, but I was wrong. The wonder kid started the Sevilla match and had a great performance. He did score against Real Madrid and did the renowned ‘calma, calma’ celebration at the Bernabeu.
With that said, let’s talk about the fixtures and their results in detail.
FC Barcelona Fixture Results and Analysis Till El Clasico 2024
FC Barcelona 4 – 1 Bayern Munich
FC Barcelona 4 – 0 Real Madrid
FC Barcelona Players to Watch Out This Season
FC Barcelona 5 – 1 Sevilla
On Sunday night the two Spanish sides met once again. With a head-to-head record of 29-7-4 with Barca winning twenty-nine times. The fixture was a great warm-up after the international break, and it was a one-sided domination by FC Barcelona.
As for the injuries, a few key players, including Araujo, Gavi, and Frenkie De Jong, missed the starting 11. Gavi came off the bench, completed all of his passes, created a chance, and won a ground duel while losing another. It was a joy to watch him play again. We gotta be patient though but I hope that he can come to his absolute best as soon as possible.
Sevilla had Saul Niguez, Loic Bade, and Djibril Sow as the absentees. The side was sitting 12th on the table before the clash against Barcelona with three wins, and the same number of defeats and draws in a total of nine games.
The Pimienta side wasn’t performing well and since this match was going to be away from them, Barca had an edge to salvage all three points for themselves.
FC Barcelona 4 – 1 Bayern Munich
After Sevilla, the next fixture was a mighty one against the German giants from Munich. The fixture commenced on October 23rd, 2024, at the temporary home of FC Barcelona Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
This was the match that I had been yearning to watch for quite a while. I upgraded to Optimum Internet for my internet needs to stream the match in the best quality without hiccups. Speaking of which, Optimum is recognized as one of the dependable ISPs (internet service providers) in the US because of its fiber-powered connectivity, affordable plans, and direct Spanish speakers (like myself) to Optimum en español.
Bayern has been one of the most bitter rivals of the Spanish club outside of Spain because of a streak of losses at the hands of mighty Germans. Bayern has won all of the last six fixtures against Barcelona. But that streak came to an end on October 23rd.
As a Barca fan, it was a good, no, great day for me. Hansi Flick has transformed this young Barcelona; the rise of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and the rejuvenation of Robert Lewandowski handed Barcelona an edge to dibble past them with a 4 – 1 victory.
Bayern was topping the German table as always, but their recent form hadn’t been that great. They lost to Aston Villa in the Champions League and then drew with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.
FC Barcelona also suffered a defeat and needed to accumulate as many points and score as many goals as possible in this new league-like Champions League format. The same went for Bayern so, that made the fixture important for both the sides. In the end, it was a single-sided effort from Barcelona as Bayern couldn’t stop the goals coming from the front three of the Blaugrana.
FC Barcelona 4 – 0 Real Madrid
Nothing feels better than watching two teams with a second-to-none rivalry – FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. I was in awe during and after the match. I was expecting a close challenge between the two, but Real Madrid neither was able to get past the offside trap or seize the scoring.
Barca has been in a rebuilding phase, and on the opposite end, Real Madrid has been a steady force against the struggling Catalans for the past couple of seasons. Barcelona has beaten Real Madrid only in the friendlies but struggled to make any mark in the matches where it mattered.
But this time around, the story was different indeed. FC Barcelona came to the capital of Spain and conquered that fixture.
FC Barcelona Players to Watch Out This Season
Dani Olmo
A high-fee transfer from the German top flight was already considered an extra in the squad with Fermin Lopez and Pablo Torre occupying the same space and having the same profile. But the Spanish midfielder-forward has already proven how valuable he is to the squad with an instant impact against Villareal.
Inaki Pena
With long-term absence and number 1 choice away from the sticks, Inaki is going to take his place. It’s another chance for him to prove that he can bail the defenders out for sloppy defending.
Gavi
Gavi is coming back after he tore his ACL with the Spanish national team. He is an absolute gem from LaMasia and a great asset for Hansi Flick’s FC Barcelona. The start might be slow but he has to pick up the pace because Flick needs players like him to press the opponents crazy.
